Give them the business
Keep free from the evil chainStarting next year, Sept 6 of every year will be the Corruption Suppression Day for members of Thai Chamber of Commerce, commemorating the death of Dusit Nontanakorn _ the man who publicly fought graft until his last day.
Corruption has corroded the Thai economy and society for decades. People take it for granted. They know a little money can lubricate the bureaucratic machinery. But no one does anything to stop the plague.
Mr Dusit publicly spoke up about corruption and under his leadership, the Thai Chamber of Commerce drew in 30 private organisations to create the Anti-Corruption Network Alliance in June 2011 with the mission to eradicate corruption from Thailand within 10 years.
People have questioned the feasibility of ridding society of corruption, as it seems to be embedded at all levels. Even some elementary school students understand how to bribe someone as they have seen it from people around them.
"We must be patient and constantly deny the temptation of corruption. Hong Kong had 30 years to tackle centuries-old corruption," said Mr Dusit.
