Producer Progress Report: Lucas Heinen
20.05.12
Having a warm shop to hide out in the winter has long been a
dream of mine, and it has finally come true. With the help of two
good friends of mine, the hot water floor heat is up and running,
and my wood boiler is working overtime trying to get the concrete
temperature up. Warming up a large slab is going to be a slow
process, but the result will be worth the wait.
Meeting schedules have lightened up for the holidays, but resume
with gusto after the first of the year. The Kansas Soybean
Association will hold its annual meeting at the Soybean Expo on
Jan. 11, in conjunction with the Topeka Farm Show. This is always a
nice opportunity to meet and mingle with producers, researchers,
and other industry people from our state and surrounding area. I
didn't know much about this event until I got involved with the
association, but it is a program that I would highly recommend to
anyone wanting to learn more about the soybean industry.
I have been digging around in the piles on my desk for the last
several days which can only mean one thing - it is almost the end
of the year. Bookkeeping has yet to thrill me, but it is something
that must be done, both to provide solid financial information and
to help with tax planning, so I trudge on. I am not quite large
enough to max out the Section 179 deduction this year, but I will
do what I can to help out our implement dealers and stimulate the
local economy.
