NWOYA, Uganda (Xinhua) -- Families in the northern Ugandan district of Nwoya residing near Murchison Falls National Park are up in arms battling elephants which they accuse of destroying their crops.
Statistics by Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), a state owned agency charged with protection and conservation of wildlife, shows that 25 elephants have been slain at Murchison Falls National Park this year alone.
Semei Okwir, the Resident District Commissioner, a government representative in the district says that the locals attribute the crossing of the elephants and other animals from the park to their gardens to the oil activities in the park.
