Keeping Score: From Brownfields to fields of green

It has been taking place for the last few years, near the banks of the Lehigh River, amidst the abandoned carnage of what was once an industrial giantthe Bethlehem Steel Corporation. What was once mountains of rusting steel structures has been turned into a thriving new entertainment and recreation complex. A total of 4.5 acres has been devoted to this project and it is part of an entire regeneration of this area that was a terrible eyesore for years, since the collapse of Bethlehem Steel. Now the area is thriving with the opening of the Sands Casino, a number of new hotels and a rebirth of business in the downtown Bethlehem area. But nowhere is the rebirth more dramatic than at SteelStacks. The monstrous steel structures of the former main steel production plant loom as an ominous, slightly eerie backdrop to the new entertainment complex.
