Housing for med students
TWENTY-EIGHT medical students at the tertiary level would now be housed at a building in the San Fernando General Hospital which was formerly used as a doctors quarters, Science, Technology and Tertiary Education Minister Fazal Karim revealed yesterday.
Speaking at the Advanced Skills Learning Centre in Duncan Village, La Romaine, where 80 tutors from Servol received their certificates after completing training at Metal Industry Company (MIC), Karim said it would cost $13 million to refurbish the building for the medical students. Funding for the refurbishment is coming from the Ministry of Health.
In addition to housing the 28 students who would be working at the hospital, Karim noted accommodations have been made for teleconferencing. We also have seating for about 100 students to attend lectures. What we plan to do is have a lecture simultaneously broadcast from Mount Hope to the students in San Fernando
