Wilson: Energy projects will help job growth
20.05.12
Second District Congressman Joe Wilson says he'll focus on
cutting spending and creating jobs in the coming year.
Speaking at Henry's Travel Plaza on Thursday, Wilson said energy
initiatives coming online next month headline efforts to increase
employment opportunities.
"Next month we will have the grand opening at the Ameresco
biomass facility," Wilson said. "It is a three-quarter-of-a-billion
dollar investment. We have a lot of woody debris in this region and
that will be used to provide energy.
"It will have a positive effect in this area, which is
Allendale, Hampton, Barnwell and Orangeburg counties."
The unit is designed to provide 30 percent of the Savannah River
Site's power once it is fully functional.
An advocate of smaller, modular nuclear reactors, Wilson also
praised the cooperation between NuScale and the Fluor Corporation
to build the units.
"I have been working with a member of another political party to
help promote modular nuclear reactors," Wilson said. "This can
create jobs.
