Oil Skimmers Releases 'More Efficient' Oil Collector
Oil Skimmers Inc. has designed a floating device to separate oil from water at industrial facilities.
The closed loop tube collector floats on the surface of the water and oil adheres to its outside. The tube is continuously driven across the separator’s surface and through a set of scrapers that remove the oil.
The Cleveland, Ohio, company says the system is more efficient, less costly and less sensitive to environmental changes than traditional oil and water separation techniques.
Traditional separation techniques include overflow skimmer pipes or weirs that operate in a similar fashion to the overflow runoff in a domestic sink. Other firms pay to have the oil removed by an outside firm.
While they are inexpensive to use, skim pipes/weirs have inherent problems because there is always oil on the surface of the separator and can be flooded by heavy rain. An outside contractor, while effective, is an expensive solution, Oil Skimmers says.
Oil Skimmers says that after attaching the Model 6V or the Model 5H floating skimmer, firms have reduced costs, increased efficiency and reduced the environmental risk of escaped oil.
